Jeff bought his first snowmobile at the age of 19, it was the start of a passion that would become a major part of his life. Jeff's first snowmobile was a 1979 ArcticCat El Tigre and he soon discovered that the color "green" was not for him. He purchased his first Polaris, a 1993 Polaris XLT Special and he was "hooked". Jeff started snowmobiling on the trails in North Dakota and northern Minnesota as a avid trail rider. He soon became an active member of the local trail club, the Clay County Trailblazers, where he met other people just like him who were passionate about riding sleds whenever and wherever they could.
It was through the people Jeff met in the club that Jeff was introduced to Cross Country Snowmobiling for the first time. One of the first people in the sport he met was Gabe Bunke, a corporate-sponsored racer from Polaris. After hearing all of the racing stories from such an experienced racer like Gabe, he knew he had to give this racing thing a shot and Jeff raced his first USCC race in the winter of 2004 at Minto, North Dakota. At the encouragement of Bunke, Jeff started in the Pro 600 Class because Bunke had rode the trail with Jeff and thought that Jeff's riding style could compete with the "big dogs". Jeff did not finish his first race, but the rush and thrill he got from it was in his blood and the racing passion was starting to build.
In Jeff's first race season in 2004-05, Jeff raced 4 out of the 5 races and placed 14th overall in total points. Not bad for a rookie year for someone over the age of 30. His sophomore season of racing, Jeff finished 6th in total points, definitely moving up and proving to people that he was interested in racing in this circuit and he was committed to the sport.
The last two years, Jeff has privately sponsored his racing efforts and recently has seen more interest from corporate sponsors. Jeff is definitely proving his commitment to the sport not only for his active participation in all race events, but his willingness to help young racers get involved with the USCC. Jeff's overall goal is to become a factory-sponsored racer for Polaris, the company he has been so committed to since his first Polaris in 1993.
Jeff is married to Paula, his wife since 1995. Although, not originally all that excited about his newfound passion for racing, Paula has come full-circle in her support for Jeff and his passion and tries to attend as many races as she can. Paula says it's exciting and nerve-racking, but knows Jeff loves it and she supports him all the way.
Jeff and Paula live in Fargo, ND where they have lived for the last 16 years. Jeff is the Installation Manager for InterOffice and Northern Home in Fargo and Paula is the Sales and Design Manager for InterOffice. They are lucky to work together... (some days?). Paula also enjoys working her Arbonne business to support Jeff's racing habit.
In the summer, Jeff and Paula have recently started to do a lot more golfing. Jeff also enjoys working on his 1959 Chevy Apache classic truck, water-skiing, playing softball, shooting trap, and training for the upcoming snowmobile season. He also enjoys riding dirt bikes with his friend and pit crew chief extraordinaire, Kelly "Lamb chops" Lambert. Jeff also tried his hand at racing his snowmobile on the water (yes-open water in June), in the International Watercross Racing Association.
The USCC racing circuit has become another family for Jeff. He has met so many new people and made some great friendships with other racers and their families. Whatever the future holds for Jeff and his racing career, you know it will include being a part of the USCC in some shape or form. He is passionate about Cross-Country Snowmobile Racing and looking forward to all of the momentum that is building for this sport that he loves so much.
